Technology

Does Dynamic Biogenics use atmospheric CO2 or sequestered CO2?
Dynamic Biogenics use our technology for both. We specifically design and retrofit current technologies that generate high concentrations of CO2 such as power plants, cement facilities, fermentation units and other industrial scale plants before it is released into the atmosphere. Atmospheric CO2 has increased as a result of human activity, and we build systems to generate biofuels although larger acreages are required to equal sequestered CO2 sources such as a coal burning power plants; however these larger facilities can be placed on marginal and non-arable lands such as deserts.

How much yield of algae can be raised per acre of land?
The quantity of algae grown per acre varies and is limited by the necessary nutrient requirements of algae that include light, carbon dioxide and inorganic nutrients. Depending on the species, supplied nutrients and environmental parameters (temperature, location, etc.) are around 5-50+ tonnes per acre/year with atmospheric CO2 and even higher depending if when algae are fed with sequestered CO2.

How much oil can be derived from 1 tonne of harvested algae?
Although the composition of oils in any species of algae can vary, about 1 tonne of algae can be processed into about ~100 gallons of oil.

How much CO2 can be utilized by growing 1 tonne of algae?
This ultimately depends on the algae strain and available nutrients, however, 1 tonne of algae can sequester about 1.5-1.75 tonnes of CO2. CO2 consumption is based on the overall lipid-protein-carbohydrates balance of the final algae. CO2 incorporation is ultimately based upon the overall algae composition that results in the macromolecule composition of the harvested algae. These macromoleculesmolecules are between 40 and 80% carbon with an average composition of 50% carbon.

Can algae be used to make other fuels and biogenerated products?
Algae biomass can be directed to generate both lipids for oil and carbohydrates for ethanol production. Delipidated biomass collected allows the carbohydrate capture which can be easily fermented into ethanol. Besides lipids and carbohydrates for the production of biofuels, algae can also be used to generate nutraceuticals and pharmaceuticals, food supplements and a wide variety of livestock feeds.

Does Dynamic Biogenics sell biodiesel and other products made from algae?
Dynamic Biogenics grows and harvests algae to generate algae products such as algae oil that can be used for feedstock and biodiesel as well as other value-added bio-products such as supplementary livestock feed.

Can algae utilize waste water streams and that are high in recycled nutrients?
Dynamic Biogenic can integrate and utilize some nutrient-rich feed streams that are sourced runoff from animal facilities and treated wastewater following treatment.

Other Info

Our photobioreactors allow mass production of algae yielding a minimum of 4-10,000 + gallons per acre/per year that is well suited for biodiesel refining into a regional, cost-effective and non-polluting resource. The resulting biofuels are a clean and energy-efficient replacement for crude oil fossil fuels, that can be used power all diesel vehicle and machines. Furthermore our photobioreactors directly contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases by capturing and sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide, whereas fossil fuel combustion not only releases carbon dioxide in a linear manner, but is also burdened with other noxious compounds that contribute to reduced atmospheric quality. Bio-fuels result in reduced harm of the environment, and can actually help to decrease our carbon-history of emissions. Dynamic Biogenics high-yield algae biomass, which in addition to biofuel feedstock, can be utilized by other industries including food, pharmaceutical, and fertilizer products, all at a much lower cost than other oil-producing crops such as rapeseed, palm and soy.

Dynamic Biogenics photobioreactor systems can be operated on non-arable land. Our systems are composed of a closed system that recycles its own water, does not require fossil fuel energy, does not require pesticides and herbicides, and is inexpensive. Furthermore, our technology removes the agricultural competition for land with plant-produced oils by utilizing otherwise non-fertile lands and the unnecessary need to deforest land for plant-derived oils. It produces from 30-100 times the yield of oil from traditional agriculture crops, and reduces nearly all the environmental impact that is found with traditional food crops and crude oil. This means all nations will be able to provide the basic necessities for social and economic development.
