January 30, 2008 Aosic BioEnergy, a spin-off of biotech company Aphios Corporation, plans to develop and commercialize a novel, carbon-consuming biomass pretreatment process for the manufacturing of cellulosic ethanol and other biofuels. Aosic also plans to develop novel high temperature and possibly, high pressure, enzymes from extremophilic terrestrial and marine environments for further improvements in the enzymatic conversion of cellulose and hemi-cellulose to ethanol and other biofuels. Aosic's BioEnergy is raising its first round of capital to establish a pilot plant to demonstrate the CBP pretreatment process on a pre-commercial scale, and then to integrate a pilot plant into a Beta-site plant for the manufacturing of cellulosic ethanol.
